Our Candle Care Guide

Candle care guide

All of our scented candles are lovingly made here in the UK to provide you with hours of scented enjoyment. To keep them looking and working their best (and safest), follow our guide to enjoy a blissful fragranced experience.

How To Burn Your Candle

Light your candle in a well-ventilated room, away from drafts, or fans, which can cause sooting (black marks on the vessel), or rapid, uneven burning.

Burn our 30cl size candles for 2 to 4 hours at a time. Burning for less time can cause the candle to 'tunnel', which leaves a build-up of wax around the vessel's sides. Burning for longer periods (over four hours) can cause the wick to move, or slant.

Make sure you stop burning your candle when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom, keeping an eye on a burning candle when the wax is low.

Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings and matches, as debris in the wax can act as a secondary wick, encouraging your candle to burn faster or possibly unsafe.

We recommend you extinguished the flame with a snuffer, centre and straighten the wick. Burning for too long can cause the wick to move, or slant. If you see a flaming wick come close to the vessel wall, extinguish the flame and straighten the wick to prevent the vessel from cracking.

Always check your wicks before relighting, trimming the wick to 10mm will aid a better burn experience.

Using Our Botanical Candles

Our botanical pillar candles from our Nature's Gift and Seasonal ranges feature a hard outer shell (which doesn't burn down) and soft wax core (which does), they should always be lit on a candle plate.

Keep them away from external sources of heat, as this can melt the hard outer shell of wax and cause dips for the inner core to spill out of.

During the burnng, if any botancials are in close contact with the flame, please extinguish and trim back the botanicals.

Our Gel Candles

Each gel candle is uniquie in its own right, hand made, and filled with botanical flowers and shells.

These candles are reusable with a tlight and for 2025 watch this space for our new candle refills.

Our Elements Botanical Candles

New for Autumn 2024 - Always burn candles on a heat resistant surface and on a candle holder that can
catch spills. Always trim the wick to about 1cm before lighting. Do not burn candle
below 1cm from the base. Always snuff out the flame, do not blow it out. Keep the
wax pool clear of matches and other debris. Keep botanicals away from wax pool and
flame. If exposed trim botanicals back. Do not use candle in a container such as a
vase or hurricane lamp. Do not place near a heat source. Do not move a burning candle.
Please extinguish before reaching botanicals. On exposure of silver foil or botanicals discontinue use.

What is 'Pull Away' and how can it be avoided?

'Pull away' is a term used to describe what looks like air bubbles in glass-vessel candle, sometimes referred to as wet spots.

All candles filled into a glass will be affected by this, which is more noticeable in a clear or semi-transparent glass.

After the hot wax has been poured into a vessel and cools down, it will slightly shrink, which can cause the wax to pull away very slightly from the vessel wall.

This gap is so tiny but is highlighted through the glass, creating the pull away appearance.

Once the candle settles into an ambient room or it is lit this will disappear, and it has not affected on your candle performance.
